Activities of the Centre
The International Centre of Excellence in Human Rights and Responsibilities is an important new stage in Rights and Humanity’s vital work, bringing space and resources to enable a number of core projects to be developed. Below is just a small sample of our planned work over the next few years:
Think - Thought Leadership and Innovation:
Aims:
• Research identify, and seek consensus on solutions to the key challenges facing humanity;
• Host an annual Global Leaders Congress in Liverpool to promote public, private and civil society consensus across religious, political, ethnic, and ideological divides and identify global solutions to global challenges;
• Undertake pilot projects to develop innovative models of empowering individuals to lift themselves and their families out of poverty, working with governments, local authorities and disadvantaged communities;
• Develop “how-to toolkits” and good practice guidelines for wider replication, building on this experience.
Unite - Building Bridges of Understanding, Respect and Cooperation
Aims:
• To bring together people from all sectors of society - of different faiths, cultures and viewpoints;
• To host expert meetings at the Centre to share best practice on human rights and responsibilities.
Act - Education and Communities for Action
Aims:
• Establish a masters’ degree course in the theory and practice of human rights and responsibilities, together with Liverpool John Moores University;
• Train representatives of all levels of society, UN, governments, business, professions, the media, faith groups, and civil society organisations, using innovative values-based methods;
• Support and empower individuals to contribute to the realisation of human rights and responsibilities within their own spheres of influence through our communities for action, Rights and Humanity’s Women’s Human Rights and Empowerment Network (WHEN) and our Global Youth Forum and our 10/12 Community.
