About the International Centre of Excellence
Rights and Humanity is pleased to be establishing its International Centre of Excellence in Human Rights and Responsibilities (ICERR) in Liverpool, a forward-looking city with a deep commitment to human rights, yet experiencing some of the greatest disparities in the UK. We look forward to contributing to equality and social cohesion in the City and wider region.
The new Centre houses both our international and UK secretariats and a conference centre in a stunning, specially designed and refurbished waterfront suite on the first floor of the historic Royal Liver Building. This provides offices to run our global operations, and a venue to bring together peoples of different faiths and cultures to celebrate diversity and unity, contributing to social cohesion and build bridges of understanding and cooperation. We are also establishing a human rights library with a database on best practice on the realisation of human rights and responsibilities, to be used by students, visiting fellows and human rights practitioners alike.
Accessibility and Environmental Sustainability
The design of the Centre was done to complement Rights and Humanity’s commitment to accessibility and environmental sustainability. The marble used throughout the ballroom is finished with a non-slip surface, to aid those with mobility difficulties.
In the remainder of the romms we have used oak from sustainable sources, which the conference chairs are made from recycled car batteries.
