Call for Action by the Patrons of Rights and Humanity’s Global Leaders Congress

The world is at a critical juncture as it grapples with the crises of climate change, natural disasters of unprecedented size and increasing water, food and energy scarcity compounded by the fallout of the global financial crisis. At the same time, we are entering a new era in which people all over the world are recognising the necessity to change our current paradigm from one of inequality and unsustainability to one of respect for our common humanity, human justice and wiser global stewardship.

We need to nurture this emerging consciousness. Rights and Humanity’s Global Leaders Congress 2011 is therefore very timely. This unique gathering will bring together a core group of thought leaders and innovators from the public, private and civil society sectors around the world to develop an urgent call for action around solutions to the pressing global challenges of our time.

We need a vision but as the Japanese proverb puts it: “Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.” For 25 years Rights and Humanity has been helping to lead the way to ensuring a just and sustainable world. Its experience of shaping global policy and practice through the framework of human rights and our common humanity shows us how to translate vision into reality.

In essence this exciting Congress is an opportunity to work together with like-minded people from different sectors to deliver practical solutions to really fundamental issues which affect us all. We trust you will join us in this noble endeavour.
