The Jigsaw Project
Rights and Humanity will build the Giant Jigsaw as part of its 25th Anniversary celebrations. It will reflect the local communities across Liverpool City Region and bring together all sectors of society in a demonstration of our unity in diversity.

Rights and Humanity: the 'Jigsaw-Maker'
We are often called the ‘jigsaw maker’ as we bring together public, private and civil society sectors to work together for the common good. We bridge the gap between human rights and development, focusing on healthcare, housing, education, water and adequate standards of living. Our unique approach champions empowerment instead of handouts, progress rather than blame, responsibilities as much as rights.

The world in a city
Merseyside is renowned for cultural diversity with the port bringing visitors from afar. The result was a unique mix of ethnicities and religions, including the first European China Town, the oldest African community in the country, the first Mosque in Britain and the second Greek-Orthodox church which happily sits alongside a synagogue and Presbyterian church. Even the ‘local’ dish is from Scandinavia! These groups have merged together to create the distinctive ‘scouse’ spirit. Liverpool is renowned for community spirit and pride in its heritage, culture and innovative outlook. Liverpool is a progressive city, which throughout history has seen many leaders and innovators. It was the first City to appoint a Minister of Public Health; the first to apologise officially for slavery and the pioneer of efforts to improve the sanitation and living conditions of the poor. Yet Merseyside still experiences some of the greatest disparities in the UK, which it is working hard to overcome.

25 Years of Achievements
Since 1986, Rights and Humanity has been at the cutting edge of new thinking, influencing global policy and practice which in turn has helped millions of disadvantaged people across the world to help themselves and their families out of poverty and social exclusion.

Our work in Liverpool City Region
We will bring our experience to bear on achieving equality and social cohesion in the region. We aim to achieve this by working with local communities, charities, businesses, schools and colleges and authorities to reduce health inequalities and empower communities to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. At the same time, we will bring people together across cultures and faiths to strengthen social cohesion.
