University Courses
First University Course on the Realisation of Human Rights in Practice
In 1988, we set up the first course in the UK on the practice, rather than the theory, of human rights. This was established within the Extra-Mural Studies Department at London University, and included lectures by leading international experts on various aspects of the realisation of human rights and humanitarian principles.
Establishing a University Course in Economic Social and Cultural Rights
In 1992, our President was invited to develop a curriculum for, and teach, the first ever university course on economic, social and cultural rights drawing on Rights and Humanity’s experience.
Established at Essex University, UK, this is a multi-disciplinary course for graduates of law, politics and philosophy, available both to students enrolled on the MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights and the LLM in International Human Rights Law.
In 2000 Ms Häusermann was appointed a Fellow of the University’s Human Rights Centre, a position she still holds.
