Launch of Call for Action - 9th Dec '11

On 9th December, following a very successful Global Leaders Congress follow-up meeting to co-create a Call for Action in response to global problems, Rights and Humanity launched the Call for Action as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations.

A wonderful mix of thought leaders and innovators from the public, private and civil society sectors, some of whom had been at the September Congress and others’ who had been inspired to join us, came along for the first time.

Ms Valerie McKie, founder of The Auraylia Project and Mr David Wasdell, Director of the Apollo-Gaia Project, coordinated the day, and chaired the talks and discussions. Professor Julia Häusermann MBE gave the keynote talk about ‘The new paradigm and introduction to the draft Call for Action’.

Small group discussions about the New paradigm, its application and draft Call for Action were facilitated by Mr David Wasdell. In trying to co-create the Call for Action, we were able to communicate – although very briefly – with one of our international participants, Ms Ruby Quantson in Ghana by Skype on a large screen.

Mr Simon Preston, Chairman 2009-10, International Board of Directors, Young Presidents’ Organization/World Presidents’ Organization, chaired a plenary discussion ‘Growing the Movement’ on how we can grow, share the message and network and support each other. Other contributions were from Ms Jackie Le Fevre, Mr Anthony Russell and Ms Christiane Pedros.

The purpose of the meeting was to forge consensus on the Call for Action, as developed during the Global Leaders Congress. All participants who attended the day signed the pledge, which can be downloaded here: Call for Action. If you would like to share your commitment to upholding the values and aims of ‘Shining the Light – A Call For Action’ and add your name to our signatories, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Before the day ended, participants had the opportunity to hear Chloe McLaughlan (aged 14) performing a stunning solo ‘This is the Dream’ - her song for the Olympics 2012, which if chosen will mean she will sing at the Olympics in 2012.
