Governance
Rights and Humanity is a decentralised organisation. Each of Rights and Humanity’s two legal entities has its own board of trustees responsible for the governance of their respective organisation. Our programmes in different countries are overseen by project committees, comprising national experts, which report back to the International Board.
The International Board is responsible for the overall management of Rights and Humanity’s global programme. The Board members are human rights experts living in eight different countries, spanning the world. In order to reduce the costs of board meetings, at its meeting in New York in December 1999, the International Board resolved to delegate its day-to-day management functions to a Management Board comprising members of the Board of Trustees of the UK Association.
This has enabled the two organisations to hold board meetings back to back, resulting in a significant saving in costs. The joint Management Board also ensures consistency of policy and cooperation. To spearhead a period of growth and transition, Rights and Humanity’s Management Board has appointed a Development Committee. One of its functions is to oversee the appointment of new UK trustees.
