Founded in 1986, Rights and Humanity is the pioneer of the Human Rights Approach to Development. Over two decades Rights and Humanity has had a considerable influence on global policy and practice, which in turn has helped millions of poor and disadvantaged people across the world to realise their human rights and dignity. We bridge the gap between human rights and development by bringing together the UN, governments and aid agencies to ensure access to food, water, healthcare, education and livelihood.

One of Rights and Humanity's partners, Nile Swimmers, has successfully trained Sudanese villagers living along the world’s longest river in vital water safety skills as part of a unique initiative to reduce the burden of drowning along the River Nile. The training programme ran from 21 October 2011 onwards.
The Nile Swimmers Project is the first large-scale drowning prevention project to be implemented on the river at a community level. Participants come from varying backgrounds; from refugees to fishermen. However all have one thing in common, the importance of the river to their community livelihoods and the common threat of drowning. Read more here.
